Vaccines Don't Work

My wife's friend Laura just posted this interesting newspaper report regarding a chicken pox outbreak in Wisconsin. As she points out, the odd thing is that all but two of the children were previously given the chicken pox vaccine.

If I were President I would not let the drug companies determine how medicine is practiced.

I mentioned in a previous post how medical statistics come from flawed math. Well, let's take a look at this case in Wisconsin.

Health experts (those pre-k math experts I mentioned here), rate the vaccine from 85 to 97 percent effective. So at most 15% of the kids should have contracted chickenpox.

In the case of the Wisconsin kindergarteners 36 percent contracted chickenpox.

Ok, so where exactly does that 15% come from? A better question would be, "Which drug company paid for the study that came up with that statistic?"

At the end of the article the newspaper says that 9 out of 10 children who take the chickenpox vaccine are completely protected from chicken pox.

10% = 36%

Uggh. Apparently, the people at the newspaper can't do math either...
